Custom Home Building FAQ

Most custom homes we build cost about $350 to $550 per square foot for construction, not including land. The final number depends heavily on design and finish choices, and on lot conditions like slope, driveway length, well depth and septic type. We give you a full estimated build cost during design, before you sign a contract.

Our kitchen remodels typically start around $100,000. The final cost depends on the size of the project and your design choices.

Construction usually takes 12 to 18 months after plans are approved. Design and permitting typically take another 6 to 12 months before that, depending on the county and the architect, so plan on roughly 18 to 30 months from first meeting to move-in.

Yes. We help you weigh location, slope, views, orientation, lot size, school district and utilities, and we arrange surveys, soils tests and well testing where required before you buy.

It means one company manages design and construction under one contract. AIM Homes coordinates the architect, structural engineer, energy consultant and interior designer, so you have one point of contact and one budget from lot to move-in.

Yes. You’re welcome to use your own architect and lender, or we can recommend people we’ve worked with in the past. We have no affiliate relationships, so the choice is always yours.

Yes. Many foothills lots, including in Evergreen, rely on a private well and septic system instead of public water and sewer. We arrange well testing and septic planning during lot selection, because they affect where the house can sit and the budget.

New homes in Jefferson County’s Wildland Urban Interface areas must meet the county’s Wildfire Resiliency Code, updated in 2026. It covers fire-resistant materials, emergency-vehicle access and defensible space around the home. We plan for these requirements during design so they’re built into the budget from the start.

Both. About 60% of our projects are renovations and about 40% are new custom homes. We specialize in major remodels, additions and custom builds, and we also do kitchens, bathrooms, basements and exterior remodels. Our smallest projects are typically a kitchen remodel, basement remodel or luxury bathroom.

We include a 1-year warranty covering manufacturer defects and improper installation, not normal wear and tear. Warranty terms are reviewed during the contract phase, and custom home warranties are reviewed with each client.

We’ve built many homes in Evergreen, but most are private custom homes, and we respect our clients’ requests not to post photos of them. We’re happy to talk through similar projects during a consultation.
